The new Eco Beach YHA is part of YHA Victoria’s environmental philosophy to make sure the design of its new, and refurbishment of its existing, hostels incorporate appropriate energy efficiency measures. This organisational commitment was developed in support of the Environmental Charter of the International Youth Hostel Federation which aims to encourage its international member organisations to apply environmental principles in their day-to-day operations.
Meeting the demand for more private rooms, guests can choose to stay in comfortable single, double or twin rooms. Family rooms, which sleep up to four, with the option of an extra bed, provide a comfortable alternative to motel accommodation. Several rooms have their own private balconies so that guests can enjoy the magnificent views of the area without leaving their rooms.
By positioning the bedrooms in a wing of the building quite separate from the guest lounges and kitchens it is intended that people staying up late can do so without significantly disturbing those who wish to sleep.
The roof deck gives spectacular views across the ocean and to the mountains at the back of the hostel, thus bringing together the three significantly different landscapes of the area – rainforest, farmland and ocean beach. To emphasise this, the hostel grounds are planted with vegetation zoned into ‘rainforest’ and ‘beach’ themes.
YHA is proud of its achievements in the development of environmentally friendly accommodation and is confident that this hostel at Apollo Bay will delight guests, both international and domestic, for the foreseeable future.
