Domestic Airlines
Melbourne is an easy city to reach from other Australian states, regularly serviced by Australia’s major domestic carriers, Qantas, Jetstar, Virgin Blue and Tiger. Peak times for airfares are generally between November and January, especially around Christmas. If you're planning to come in summer, book in advance.

Melbourne's Tullamarine Airport
Melbourne's Tullamarine Airport is approximately 22km from the city - about a 30-minute drive, depending on traffic. Australia's second busiest airport is open 24/7, servicing all the major international airlines. The airport has baggage lockers in the international terminal, foreign exchange counters, information desks and, for departing travellers, an area to reclaim the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on some goods. Departure tax is charged on leaving the country, but it's often incorporated in your airline ticket.
Getting to Melbourne's Tullamarine Airport
Skybus Super Shuttle runs between Melbourne Airport and the Melbourne central business district, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The service runs every 10 minutes between 6am and 9pm (less frequently at other times), and takes 20 minutes to get from the airport to the City centre. A taxi from the airport costs around $AUD50 to the city centre, $AUD60 to St Kilda.
Avalon Airport
Avalon is easily accessible from Melbourne and Geelong (Victoria's 2nd largest city and gateway to the Great Ocean Road). Daily flights to/from Avalon to Sydney and Brisbane are available with Jetstar.
Sita Coaches operates a bus service between Avalon Airport and Southern Cross Station (formerly Spencer Street Station).The shuttle meets all arriving and departing Jetstar flights on a set timetable and takes approximately 50 minutes. The Avalon Airport Shuttle also operates a bus service between Avalon Airport and Geelong, Torquay, the Bellarine Peninsula and the Great Ocean Road. The shuttle meets all arriving and departing Jetstar flights on a set timetable and the Avalon Airport Shuttle desk can be found in the Arrivals Hall. By bus
Buses stop at the Melbourne Transit Centre at 58 Franklin Street, near the top of Swanston Street, and Southern Cross Station. Generally less expensive than trains, buses are equipped with air-conditioning and video players. Firefly operate daily departures to Adelaide and Sydney. The direct bus route from Adelaide to Melbourne takes 11 hours and the direct route between Sydney and Melbourne takes 12 hours.
By train
Trains servicing country Victoria and interstate routes arrive at Southern Cross Station, where you can connect to a suburban rail line.
The Overland train service from Adelaide is operated by Great Southern Railway Limited and takes between 9 and 12 hours depending on the scheduled stops, while the CountryLink XPT train service from Sydney to Melbourne takes around 10-11 hours.

By boat
If you're travelling from Tasmania by ferry, you'll dock at Station Pier in Port Melbourne, about 4km southwest of the CBD. The ferry Spirit of Tasmania operates overnight between Melbourne and Devonport with additional day sailings during peak periods. Contact the Spirit of Tasmania website for further information.
