Kyneton

Royal George Hotel bar, Kyneton

Your food and wine adventure in Daylesford and the Macedon Ranges isn't complete without a visit to Kyneton, a gold rush town that punches well above its weight in the gourmet stakes.

Picnic on Piper Street
You may not doing your waistline any favours by lingering along Kyneton's Piper Street, which has long been known for its heritage buildings and antique dealers and is now a gourmand's paradise.

Slow Living and Ladle sell seasonal local bounty and all manner of preserves for you to take home. Make sure you pick up a bottle of Kyneton Olive Oil, made by second-generation olive growers the Trovatello family. Try leaving Life's Sweet without one or two of the designer cupcakes if you can fit them in after gourmet pizzas for lunch at Pizza Verde. The Royal George Hotel is the street's piece de resistance, serving up city-style dishes using nothing but the best local produce.

History and heritage
Your journey around Piper Street will have you wandering along nineteenth century granite streets lined with bluestone architecture. Grab a small piece of history at one of the local antiques and galleries, or find out more at the Kyneton Museum.

The great outdoors
Make the most of Kyneton's vantage point on the Campaspe River. Pack a picnic from the town's bounteous suppliers and relax by the river or in the historic botanical gardens. Celebrate the region's abundance of natural mineral springs and fill your flask from the pump at the Kyneton Mineral Springs.
