Study in Victoria
Studying in Australia offers value for money – for example, living expenses and tuition costs are much less than in the UK and USA.
Victoria's universities
Victoria is a major destination for overseas students. Prestigious institutions such as the University of Melbourne, RMIT University, Monash University, Victoria University or the regional University of Ballarat are internationally recognised for their quality of teaching, high academic standards and provision of supportive study environments. In addition, their graduates are some of the most sought-after in the national and international career market.
The academic year
Australia’s academic year runs from February to December, with applications for many tertiary courses closing the previous October. For international students, a level of proficiency in English is a prerequisite to enter mainstream institutions. A number of tertiary institutions offer mid-year intakes for particular courses, while English language courses have more frequent student intakes. If you intend to study in Victoria, there are a number of secondary schools and tertiary institutions offering curricula to promote a higher level of internationalism within their campuses.
Where to stay
Most universities provide some form of on-campus accommodation, or are equipped to help students find a place to live, usually in nearby areas. If you’re a full-time student, you also qualify for a range of concessions, from discounted travel to cut-price cinema tickets.
